Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is my Florida Select policy being cancelled or non-renewed?

A: Florida Select's financial position was found to be insufficient to meet the future needs of its policyholders by State of Florida insurance Regulators and a Circuit Court Judge. This requires that all policies be cancelled or non-renewed.

Q: Why is my policy being moved to Southern Fidelity when neither my Agent nor I authorized it?

A: In an effort to assist policyholders and insurance agents find replacement coverage, a plan for each Florida Select policyholder to receive an offer for a new policy with Southern Fidelity was approved by regulators. This is only an offer. It is not mandatory that you accept this offer.

Q: How does this process work?

A: Briefly, you have or will receive a notice from Florida Select that your policy will be cancelled and telling the date that it will cancel. Shortly after, Florida Select will send you any refund of premium that you are owed. Southern Fidelity will send you a policy offer that can be effective the same date that your Florida Select policy will be cancelled. The offer will include a copy of the policy and an invoice. In order to accept this offer, you need only to pay the premium before the date your Florida Select policy is scheduled to cancel. The process is outlined in greater detail in the letters you received from both Florida Select and Southern Fidelity.

Q: I've decided that I don't want to accept the offer from Southern Fidelity, what should I do? What are my other options?

A: If you do not wish to accept the offer from Florida Select, simply do not pay the premium. If you want to look for other options, we suggest that you contact your Insurance Agent for assistance. If your premium is not paid on the date due, coverage may not be available from Southern Fidelity.

Q: The Southern Fidelity premium costs too much. Why?

A: Your offer from Southern Fidelity is based upon your previous coverage with Florida Select. All of Southern Fidelity's rates are approved and on file with the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. You are not being charged any additional costs because you were insured with Florida Select. Florida Select had planned to increase their rates, so you would have seen an increase from them in most areas. Differences in policy fees and assessments are the result of requirements imposed by the State of Florida.

Q: The coverages and special endorsements for coverages seem different with Southern Fidelity. Why?

A: There are some differences between Florida Select and Southern Fidelity. No two insurance companies offer exactly the same coverage choices. Southern Fidelity does not offer several items available with Select, including; 120% Replacement Costs Coverage, Back up of Sewers, Septic Systems, etc, some Scheduled Property Coverage and Expanded Personal Liability Coverage. If you have questions concerning coverage and your specific needs, please contact your Agent for assistance.

Q: Will my agent continue to serve me on this policy?

A: Yes, unless they choose to not work with Southern Fidelity.

Q: Are there payment plans available? What about credit cards and e-checks?

A: Payment plans of 2 and 4 installments are available directly from Southern Fidelity. Your Agent can assist you if you prefer to finance your policy with more installments. Currently, credit cards and e-checks are not available.

Q: What about my mortgage lender? How will they be told about the change.

A: Copies of all items sent to you, including invoices and policy declaration pages, will be sent to any lender currently listed on your policy. If your lender is responsible for paying your premium, you should contact them to verify that they are doing so.

Q: I would like to consider a different deductible or some changes to my coverage. How Can I get information?

A: You should call your Agent and discuss these changes. If these changes meet your needs, your Agent will request the change be made. Your Agent can also ask us for information on how the change will affect your premium cost.
